Microsoft Announces Hyper-V Server 2008

When I did a Hyper-V Link Roundup a while back, I mentioned that one complaint about Hyper-V is that you actually have to own Server 2008 in order to use it. Not anymore.

Microsoft announced today (Wednesday) the release of Hyper-V Server 2008, a stand alone, bare metal virtualization product, and yes, it's free.

I've been playing with Hyper-V a little bit, and have even set up a Linux machine on it, and I'll have to say, it's pretty sweet. Releasing a standalone server is a great move on Microsoft's part, since now even shops that don't have Server 2008 installed can go ahead and start playing with Hyper-V.

You can get even more details over at Windows IT Pro, and at the Microsoft Hyper-V Server site.
